Green Communities Canada and our EnerGuide Service Organization network are launching the first annual Heat Pump Week in Canada from October 13-16, 2026. This new national campaign is designed to accelerate the transition to heat pumps and champion their benefits – from cutting fossil fuels to creating healthier, more energy-efficient communities. The resources here are intended to help our member network participate in and amplify this campaign.
Heat Pump Week provides an annual occasion for our nationwide network to share knowledge, insights, and expertise. The Heat Pump Week campaign delivers its impact through webinars, articles, and resources offered by our network, along with nationwide data, insights, and advocacy. The campaign is complemented by real stories from homeowners across Canada who have made the switch to a heat pump.
Heat Pump Week aims to:
- Increase homeowner understanding of heat pumps and dispel common myths
- Showcase real installations and homeowner stories
- Advocate for better support of energy efficiency and affordability measures from all levels of government
- Increase support for investments in retrofitting Canada’s 11+ million homes
- Reinforce the importance of right-sizing heat pumps for each home
Canada is moving towards net zero emissions by 2050. The building sector as a whole emits roughly 18 per cent of Canada’s fossil fuel emissions, and heating accounts for more than half of that. Heat pumps are a crucial solution for cutting Canada’s emissions.
We must also build resilience in the face of a changing climate. Heat pumps play a crucial role not only in cutting reliance on fossil fuels for home heating, but also as energy-efficient cooling solutions during extreme heat events or when forest fire smoke requires we close our doors and windows.
