City of St.Thomas Mini Forest Installation
The City of Richmond has identified four municipally owned sites that are well-suited for the establishment of Miyawaki-style mini forests. These sites are currently classified as low-use green spaces and are primarily maintained as turf grass, with routine mowing reflecting historical land-use practices rather than ecological function.
Each site averages approximately 300 m² in total area. Through this project, the City proposes to convert a portion of each space into a high-impact mini-forest of 150–200 m², while maintaining flexibility in site layout and surrounding uses. The proposed mini forests would consist of approximately 600–700 native plants per site, carefully selected to support local biodiversity, improve soil health, and enhance urban climate resilience.
