Kahnawake Environment Protection Office (KEPO) is Green Communities Canada’s newest member organization. A unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, KEPO started as a grassroots movement protesting the damming of the Lachine Rapids as well as illegal dumping, and has evolved to operate as a conservation authority that monitors community air and water quality, restores creeks and wetlands, remediates toxic dump sites, and supports green infrastructure projects.
“GCC has enjoyed working with the Kahnawake Environment Protection Office on several green infrastructure projects, and is thrilled they are now a member of our network,” says GCC Executive Director Brianna Salmon.
