We’re excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 Demonstrate Stream of the Living Cities Canada Fund! This funding opportunity offers grants of up to $15,000 to support the creation of new, equity-embedded green infrastructure projects that bring nature back into communities and build local climate resilience.

Green infrastructure projects use native plants and other natural or engineered features to:

  • Increase stormwater infiltration, reduce localized flooding, and reduce stormwater pollutants;
  • Cool urban areas provide shade, improve local air quality, and increase canopy cover;
  • Increase access to green space, connections to nature, and a sense of belonging;
  • Sequester carbon, enhance biodiversity, support pollinators, create habitat for species at risk, and/or
  • Address issues of food security, install fruit-bearing trees or bushes, and re-establish cultural or medicinal plants in the landscape.

We encourage the planning and planting of green infrastructure projects that are led by or in partnership with the community and site hosts to meet local priorities.

Green infrastructure projects include: depaving of under-used asphalt, and/or installation of rain gardens, pollinator gardens, micro prairies, mini forests, food forests, community garden plots, etc.

Who can apply: Community-based nonprofits, Indigenous governments or organizations, municipalities, conservation authorities, and schools planning 2026 projects on public or publicly accessible sites.

Projects with a strong equity focus will be prioritized.
