Green Communities Canada congratulates Prime Minister Mark Carney on his victory and welcomes the commitments of the Government of Canada to creating healthy, sustainable, and inclusive communities.
GCC looks forward to working with all MPs, from all parties, and strengthening relationships between all levels of government and Indigenous leaders to improve the lives of the more than 70% of Canadians that benefit from the work of our nationwide network of non-profit environmental organizations.
GCC is ready to support policies and partnerships that will advance transformative and equitable climate action, including:
- Our recommendations to grow the promised Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program, scale up a new Greener Homes Grant program with a stronger focus on deep energy retrofits, and expand the Canada Greener Homes Loan program. See further in our 2025 National Progress Report on Retrofitting Canada’s Homes.
- Our mobilization of Canada’s largest ever collective School Streets movement thanks to funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada. Together with our partners, we are charting a path for better public policy and funding that creates safer and healthier conditions for our children and their future. - Our resources and leadership experience in advancing local policy and implementing equity-embedded urban green infrastructure projects where they are needed most. Read more in our 2024 Living Cities Impact Report here.
- Our recommendations in the Pathways for Canadian Electric School Bus Adoption report and our soon-to-be-released report on Embedding Equity in Canada’s Transition to Electric School Buses.
How we respond to this pivotal moment in the history of Canada matters. Everyone at GCC is working to help grow strong, sustainable, and inclusive communities for all Canadians.
We stand firmly with Indigenous communities calling for renewed commitments to Truth and Reconciliation. We move forward in a good way by respecting and upholding the rights and traditional teachings of the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples who are the original caretakes of these Lands and Waters.
