Protecting and conserving water resources
GREEN COMMUNITIES work with people at home, at the cottage and in the community to protect the integrity of ground and surface waters and to conserve our water resources.
Water programs delivered by our member Green Community organizations include:
- shoreline and stream restoration
- rain barrel sales, installation and workshops
- low water gardening workshops
- low flush toilet change outs
In addition, Well Aware is a joint private well stewardship program that engages well owners in actions to protect their family’s drinking water and our precious groundwater resources.
RAIN is another Green Communities Canada joint program, launched in 2011, that motivates action to reduce non-point source pollution entering Ontario’s lakes and rivers through storm sewers and direct run-off.
