Provincial training features Dundas depave

Depave Paradise managers from across Ontario gathered in Hamilton in September for a three-day training event that culminated in a depave at a local elementary school. Armed with pry bars and shovels, the managers joined school children and volunteers to remove 172 square metres of pavement at Yorkview Elementary School in Dundas.

Sandy Shaw, MPP Hamilton West–Ancaster–Dundas, and Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) volunteer Anne Tennier, were on hand to see how a three-year $740,000 province-wide OTF Grow grant awarded to Green Communities Canada (GCC) is making a difference in their community.

“Thanks to the funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, transformational environmental projects across our Province and right here in Dundas are made possible. It is truly inspiring to see what can be accomplished when students along with community partners work together to enrich where we live, work and play,” said MPP Shaw.

The Dundas depave is one of 36 Depave Paradise projects GCC will complete by 2021 with support from OTF.
