About Us
Our History
Green Communities formed as a network in 1995 and incorporated as the Green Communities Association in 1996. In early 2005, we became Green Communities Canada to better reflect our national scope. See our Mission and Values.
Our Structure
Green Communities Canada's member organizations appoint a national Board of Directors responsible for planning, policy and directing staff.
Our Office
Green Communities Canada's national office is based in Peterborough, Ontario. You can visit the Contact Us page for contact information and a staff directory.
What We Do
Share information
We support sharing of program information and resources through:
- the weekly Green Communities News
- conferences, meetings
- the Green Room (a private online forum for members)
Coordinate joint programs
We facilitate delivery of joint programs common to a number of our members (e.g., Active and Safe Routes to School, Home Energy Efficiency).
Build capacity
We help to develop skills and the organizational capacity of GCC members (governance, financial management, human resources, policies, etc.)
Build visibility
We build the reputation of our members, Green Communities Canada, and programs.
Build membership
We recruit existing organizations to join Green Communities Canada
and aid local efforts to form new ones. See more on Green Communities Canada membership
and establishing a Green Community.
