Champions of active transportation have issued a fresh call for federal leadership in making Canada a great place for active transportation. (See letter, signed by 23 prominent organizations.)
The call for federal action is prompted by two exciting developments:
- publication of an October 2018 report by a committee of the Council of Ministers Responsible for Transportation and Highway Safety.
- a resolution calling for federal leadership on active transportation by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, June 2018.
Both initiatives support a strong role for the federal government in implementing active transportation, and in coordinating the work of other levels of government and stakeholders.
The call for action proposes a collaborative approach that includes NGOs, and professional and business associations. The call is led by a broad alliance of cycling, walking, and active school organizations, represented by Vélo Canada Bikes, Green Communities Canada (Canada Walks), and Active School Travel Canada.
